What made you choose you venue?

We were looking for a smaller venue in the city. We looked at a few others but decided that the parking situation at Revolution Brewery would be a mess, having to bring in our own catering, tables, and booze to other places would be annoying, and while we loved Zed 41, the colors at Carnivale were hard to beat. I went to a tasting at Carnivale, loved the food, loved how easy it was to work with the wedding coordinator, and loved the location right off the expressway for people from the burbs.

What made you choose Bearmane Films to document your day?

Content, content, content. At first. Content was king. I loved your videos. I loved how you showed the macro- the big wedding happening and the micro- details in the scenery. And then when I had a phone call with you, you were easy-going but also knew what you were talking about and confident. I knew that a wedding downtown could be a mess without someone to give direction. I had a consultation with a photographer whose photography was amazing but she was not very good at giving direction! I did not feel confident in her taking control on the day of the wedding. I felt nothing but ease talking to you!

What do you guys do? What’s important in life to you? How do you spend your days?

Paul works in business development for a software company. I am a coach for new runners and a teacher for kids in China. What’s important to us: adventure, experiences, trying new things, our dog, each other. We love to go hiking, go for walks, go running, and eat vegetables.

The Proposal, How did it happen, What is the story?

We went on a trip to a cabin in the mountains. I wore red plaid pants and a plaid shirt! When I came out to show Paul to make him laugh, he wasn’t laughing. He was nervous and being really weird, and I couldn’t tell why. I literally said, “If you don’t tell me why you are not laughing, I am going to start a fight with you!” Paul reached into the couch, grabbed the ring, and asked me to marry him. I ugly cried and said yes. It was such an imperfect proposal. I love it. It’s us.

What kind of experience did you want for your guests?

When we got engaged, we sat down to write out objectives for the wedding! It’s the teacher in me! We wrote down that it was important to us for our guests to walk away from the night and say, “That was a fun party!” We wrote down that we wanted great food, free flowing booze, and great music. We wanted a great photographer and videographer, and really, nothing else mattered. If we could have those 3 things and people to document the event, we knew it would be fun for us and for our guests.
